2020 Kraus-Anderson BIKE DULUTH FESTIVAL Postponed to 2021
The decision was made due to the many extenuating circumstances of COVID-19 and associated changes the pandemic necessitated for vendors and supporters, including the decision by Spirit Mountain in May to close for the remainder of the season.
“That was an incredibly tough decision for Spirit Mountain, and we respect and support that choice to close. For the past month, we continued to seek out venues and ways to modify races, rides and activities in ways that would allow us to hold our event in a safe, responsible, exciting manner,” said Dan Markham, director of operations at
Kraus-Anderson Construction Company, which founded and organizes the Bike Duluth Festival. “As much as we wanted to find a creative way to forge ahead in 2020, we decided that anything less than the highest quality event—for riders, sponsors and supporters—was not in anyone’s best interests. We’ll plan on riding again in 2021, the right way.”
The festival is primarily concerned with the safety of riders, families, volunteers and spectators. Organizers are also concerned about the value that riders, vendors and supporters get from participating in this premier event. Thanks to participants, the KA Bike Duluth Festival has given back over $240,000 to local charities and Duluth mountain biking trails in the past six years.
“On behalf of our committee, a big ‘Thank you’ to riders and to our past volunteers, who are the groundwork of this event,” Markham said. “Thank you to our presenting sponsors: Trek and St. Luke’s Orthopedics, and to our partners: COGGS, Harbortown Rotary, Ski Hut, Spirit Mountain, and Hailey Sault, and to all of our past sponsors for their continued belief in our mission. Thank you to our vendors and demo providers for spreading the joy and excitement of riding. We are so proud of this event and look forward to seeing you in full swing during summer 2021!”
